When I was gifted a book for Christmas in 2014, I had no idea that it would turn out to be my Pandora’s Box.
For a start, this book reignited my passion for reading.
For a while I had dipped in and out of a few novels, managing perhaps 1 or 2 a year. I was gifted this book as a Secret Santa present for Christmas and was curious as I’d never read a book of short stories, not least from Stephen King.
I was never an advocate of shorts stories. They just didn’t grip me, so I went into this book with a tentative hat on and figured I’d flick through the first few pages and put it back down.
But that didn’t happen.
Instead this book launched me on a trail that has now spanned close to two years, found me some amazing friends, and helped me realise new talents and ventures that writing could take.
I don’t think there’s a tale in here that didn’t blow me away. Every story is so different from the last, narrative perspectives change between tales, and it’s just an incredibly gripping collective, one that certainly inspires me as a writer to up my game and create something of at least half this standard.
Simply cannot recommend this book enough to myself, and to anyone wishing to find some inspiration in the craft of writing… Thank you, Mr King.
